Pediatric Surgery

Pediatric surgery is defined as the diagnostic, operative, and postoperative surgical care for children with congenital and acquired anomalies and diseases, be they developmental, inflammatory, neoplastic or traumatic. The scope of this discipline would focus especially on surgical problems in utero, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and sometimes, young adulthood. Certain diagnoses would require extended involvement of the pediatric surgeon during adulthood as the patient transitions to adult surgeons and providers.
1. Neonatal surgery/ Surgery in premature babies - all congenital anomalies requiring surgery like : Tracheo –esophageal fistulas (TEF), diaphragmatic hernias (CDH), omphalocele, gastroschisis, neonatal intestinal obstructions, bowel atresias, anorectal malformations etc are operated successfully .
2. Pediatric general surgery- Inguinal hernia,hydrocele, phimosis, umbilical hernia, hamartomas, thyroglossal cysts, branchial fistulas, appendicitis, intestinal obstructions, Hirschsprungs disease, hepato biliary surgery including choledochal cysts, biliary atresia, pancreatic cysts etc., pediatric thoracic surgery etc.
3. Pediatric minimal access surgery/ Endoscopic surgery - Our pediatric surgeons are well trained in performing key hole surgery (laparoscopic surgery ) even in newborn babies. Laparoscopic appendicectomy, lap orchipexy, laparoscopic repair of diaphragmatic hernias, lap abdo cysts excisions, Laproscopic pyeloplasty and other urological procedures like vesicoscopic reimplantation surgeries and VATS- video assisted thoracoscopic surgery for empyemas, lung cysts ,biopsies etc. are performed routinely in Surya mother and childcare hospital, which improves the patient outcome.
